Rail freight operator Pacific National has announced plans to establish a new rail depot in Muswellbrook, New South Wales.
The investment will increase the company’s capability across its Hunter Valley and Northwest operations, reinforcing its long-term presence in the region.
Pacific National is launching a recruitment drive to attract qualified train drivers to the new Muswellbrook operation.
A key feature of this initiative is the introduction of a “lifestyle roster”, to make the role more appealing to drivers both living in and outside the broader region.
Brett Grehan, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific National, said: “Our lifestyle roster gives drivers the freedom to live where they choose and work in the Hunter Valley at Muswellbrook.
“The lifestyle roster, first introduced by our coal team at Coppabella, Queensland in 2023, has been a great success for our people and Pacific National.
“Muswellbrook is another great example of our commitment to regional rail employment and our continued investment in growth, people and the communities we serve.”
The investment is expected to stimulate local business, create jobs, and contribute to the broader economic development of the Hunter Valley.
“This is more than just a depot – it’s a vote of confidence in the future of the Hunter Valley,” said Grehan.
“I’m already delighted in the interest in the new lifestyle roster, so I’d encourage drivers to Apply and Join the Crew Moving Australia’s Economy.”
Planning for the new depot is underway, with it expected to open in early 2026.
