<p>New Zealand’s Port Otago has signed an agreement with Tranz Rail to adopt a closer working relationship and move more boxes onto rail.</p> <p>As part of the agreement, Port Otago will relocate its south freight container depot business to Tranz Rail’s Strathallan Street terminal and the port will also purchase Tranz Rail’s Dunedin box company operation.</p> <p>The agreement includes promoting the use of rail to and from Port Chalmers, including the construction of an alternative port gate to maximise movements between Port Chalmers and Dunedin.</p> <p>Tranz Rail group general manager Noel Coom said the agreement recognises Port Otago’s growing importance as a key export gateway.</p> <br />
