NZ business fears poor transport infrastructure will stunt growth

<p>New Zealand’s transport infrastructure has been given a resounding thumbs-down in a survey of more than 45 major businesses.</p> <p>The Infometrics survey found that the country’s transport system is now the biggest single constraint on business growth, the <em>New Zealand Herald </em> reported.</p> <p>Transport concerns included "poor or non-existent service" from rail, deteriorating air cargo services, extra security requirements and a trend towards consolidating cargoes at fewer points, the paper reported.</p> <p>The state of Tranz Rail has led firms to perceive that they can no longer rely on infrastructure as it is becoming "a significant business risk", the <em>Herald </em> said.</p> <p>The survey found that many businesses believe that there are few instant solutions to infrastructure bottlenecks, and what appears to be short-term problems are likely to become more regular and persistent. </p> <br />
