<p>The National Transport Commission will release its impact statement on the 2007 pricing determination review at close of business this afternoon (Friday, July 6).</p> <p>The review is the first phase of a Council of Australian Governments-backed (COAG) pricing reform for heavy vehicles.</p> <p>In line with the Productivity Commission’s Road and Rail Infrastructure Pricing report, COAG agreed in April to a three-phased reform program to provide better price signals for transport freight infrastructure providers and users to meet forecast national freight figures, in parallel with implementing road transport productivity enhancing reforms. </p> <p>Heavy vehicle charges would likely need to rise, the commission’s report found.</p> <p>The report outlined the three-phase approach to pricing change – beginning with changes to the present PAYGO (pay-as-you-go) system and new charges determination.</p> <p>The document will be open for public comment for a period of six weeks.</p> <br />
