NT Government heralds Ghan success

<p>The Ghan passenger train has been an "overwhelming success" since it began operating into Darwin on February 1 this year, Northern Territory chief minister Clare Martin said.</p> <p>"Along with the additional cruiseships in 2004, the Ghan has effectively extended the tourist season, bringing approximately 30,000 customers through the territory to date," Ms Martin said.</p> <p>The government said it wanted to consolidate that success and had just awarded a $165,000 contract to upgrade the Tennant Creek railway station.</p> <p>The Ghan has strong forward bookings through to April 2005, she said. </p> <br />
