NSW unions seek alternatives to ARTC plan

Rail unions are looking for ways of keeping the New South Wales rail network under State Government control.

The unions are responding to the proposal for the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to lease and manage NSW’s interstate track, including the Hunter Valley.

The unions met last week and decided to prepare a report that "proposes a wholesale commercial contract that does not require ownership or control of railway infrastructure or network control, as an alternate to the ARTC proposal".

The unions will also engage an economist to analyse the economic assumptions contained in the ARTC plan.
