<p>Driver shortages have forced the cancellation of 88 commuter train services in suburban Sydney until further notice.</p> <p>Tough new medical tests introduced in the wake of the Waterfall crash inquiry have compounded the problem and RailCorp’s newly launched driver recruitment campaign will not provide a short-term solution.</p> <p>The New South Wales Government has said it will aim to protect peak hour services from disruption, leaving off-peak and weekend services to bear the brunt of driver shortages.</p> <p>The Rail Tram and Bus Union will meet later this week to discuss possible industrial action over the issue.</p> <p>It said that RailCorp is unapologetic about the cancellation of services and its members are receiving abuse from frustrated commuters.</p> <br />
