<p>New South Wales transport safety boss Kent Donaldson has quit his position to take up a post with Connex Melbourne.</p> <p>Mr Donaldson start as chief operating officer of Connex Melbourne on August 1.</p> <p>Connex chief executive Bruce Hughes said Mr Donaldson’s experience of rail safety management would strengthen Connex’s safety credentials and "maintain Victoria’s enviable rail safety record."</p> <p>His new responsibilities will include network safety, train and network services and customer service.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Mr Donaldson’s present employer, the NSW Government, has rebuffed opposition claims that he resigned because he was fed up with the Government’s approach to safety.</p> <p>The opposition said Mr Donaldson had more than three years to go on his contract.</p> <p>A Government statement to the <em>Sydney Morning Herald</em> quoted Mr Donaldson as saying his decision was a career promotional move.</p> <br />
