<p>New South Wales has unveiled its biggest ever building program and rail’s share will go towards improving track and getting more trains on the system.</p> <p>A total of $801m will be spent on building and upgrading rail lines and more trains and carriages. </p> <p>A further $770m of recurrent funding is allocated to maintain track, trains and carriages.</p> <p>The funding includes:</p> <p>• $186m for the purchase of an additional 141 Millennium Train rail cars and 41 new outer-suburban cars </p> <p>• $30m on new signalling and other safety works </p> <p>• $222m to start construction of the Epping to Chatswood rail link and</p> <p>• $3.6m for project development of the Cronulla-Sutherland line amplification and of the Bondi turnback for the Illawarra line.</p> <br />
