North-south rail boost in three years, says Truss

<p>Federal transport minister Warren Truss says major upgrade projects on the main north-south railway by the Australian Rail Track Corporation, should be completed within three years. </p> <p>The upgrades will allow 1,500-metre trains to run between Sydney and Brisbane, and 1,800-metre trains to run between Melbourne and Sydney.</p> <p>Melbourne-Brisbane transit times are expected to fall by over nine hours to 26 hours10 minutes. </p> <p>Mr Truss told last week’s <em>Australian Financial Review</em> National Infrastructure Summit that the Government was completing a study into intermodal terminals under AusLink which would support the upgraded rail lines. </p> <p>Also being undertaken is a study into a future inland rail route to supplement the north-south line.</p> <table width="228" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" align="right" height="312" name="test"> <tr> <td width="228" height="10"> <div align="center"><font size="1"><b>Advertisemen</b>t</font>
