<p>Rail services between Mackay and Cairns have resumed today (Monday, February 5) as the flood waters that cut track and roads in the area recede and rain eases.</p> <p>Roads and rail lines between Townsville, Cairns and Mackay were cut in several locations and tracks had been damaged, QR said last week.</p> <p>Freight and passenger services were cancelled after a late start to the north Queensland wet season, in which some longstanding rainfall records were broken. </p> <p>No freight rail services ran over the weekend after the north coast line sustained damage in places between Mackay and Cairns.</p> <p>The Bruce Highway between Bowen and Cairns re-opened nearly 24 hours ago.</p> <p>Coal trains on the Goonyella system were running as scheduled, QR said onFriday. However, trains on the Newlands system were not operating because the weather disrupted coal production from the mines. </p> <p>More heavy rain is forecast for today, with Ingham having already received 800 mm and Townsville over 500 mm</p> <br />
