A new train wash is now complete at the Kananook Train Stabling Yard in Victoria, with drivers undergoing training before it is officially switched on next month.
The new facility will ensure trains on the Frankston Line are “sparkling clean” and ready to welcome passengers without having to leave the line.
In addition to the wash, the yard’s capacity has been increased from eight to 21 trains.
A maintenance facility has been built to service trains, and an extra connection has been added to the Frankston Line to enable trains to easily enter and exit the site.
The first stage of the Kananook Train Stabling Yard was completed in May 2020 as part of the Carrum level crossing removal works.
In 2022, a new high-tech signal control centre and better driver facilities were added to the site, with 36 workers currently working at the stabling yard.
A spokesperson for the Victorian Government said: “By upgrading the Kananook stabling yard now, we’re ensuring Frankston Line trains can return to the City Loop when the Metro Tunnel opens later this year.”
“With the project almost complete, more than 100 jobs will be based at the facility, including more than 50 new jobs when the expanded facilities open later this year.”
The Frankston Line will be level crossing free by 2029.
