<p>Sweeping changes to transport safety regulation and performance monitoring in New South Wales will be introduced into State Parliament, NSW transport services minister Michael Costa said.</p> <p>The Transport Legislation Amendment (Safety and Reliability) Bill 2003 will create the Independent Transport Safety and Reliability Regulator (ITSRR) from January 1, 2004.</p> <p>It will function as the statutory authority to investigate transport accidents, set safety standards, make recommendations on performance standards and conduct safety and performance audits.</p> <p>Although the Government will not receive the Waterfall accident investigation commission report until 2004, the amendment bill has a 12-month review clause to consider any recommendations and changes in the inquiry’s findings. </p> <br />
