New Goonyella track passing loop ready for miners

<p>Queensland Rail said yesterday it had commissioned a newly constructed rail passing loop between Peak Downs and Saraji in central Queensland on the Goonyella system.</p> <p>The Harrow Passing loop was of vital importance as customer needs grew, QR executive general manager Micheal Carter said.</p> <p>The southern section of the Goonyella track that the loop was located on was expected to experience a significant increase in use as new mines in the area came online</p> <p>QR said the new loop would reduce congestion and increase efficiency on its coal network.</p> <p>"The passing loop is a key element in increasing the system’s capacity and robustness, giving it the capability to adapt to demand variability and deliver increasing Goonyella tonnages," he said.</p> <p>"This loop and other Goonyella System rail projects will ensure that the rail infrastructure supports port enhancements at the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal and meets the overall contracted volume demand."</p> <br />
