Two new Australind trains are now being tested along the South West Main Line from Perth to Bunbury in Western Australia.
The Australind service was suspended in November 2023 as the Armadale Line was closed for upgrades.
The closure of the line also marked the retirement of the ADP/ADQ class trainsets, with the last two services taking place that month.
The previous Australind service suffered from reliability issues, with replacement coaches regularly needed.
Both three-car railcar sets are diesel variants of the Transperth C-series train.
The trains have been built at Alstom’s Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility, as part of the WA Railcar Program.
They will boast modern interiors, greater storage space for bicycles, USB charging ports, and an upgraded buffet.
A commencement date for Australind service has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be in the coming months.
