A new manufacturing hub for the rail industry and sustainable mobility sector has officially opened in Maryborough, Queensland.
The 5000 square metre factory, which is owned and operated by ABB Traction Australia, represents a USD 6 million investment (approximately 9 million AUD).
The Traction Centre of Excellence will produce traction converters, motors, and Mobile e-Power solutions and is set to play a key role in the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), which involves building 65 new trains in time for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
ABB has also established a Traction Battery Service Centre at the same location to support ongoing projects.
The launch event, which took place last week, was attended by the Premier of Queensland, David Crisafulli, along with other state and regional government representatives, and many of ABB’s customers and partners.
Dr. Ali Parvizi, Local Division Manager, Traction – Australia/New Zealand, said that the Traction Centre of Excellence is a “monumental achievement” and testament to the power of partnership.
“By uniting ABB’s technology leadership with the expertise of Hyundai Rotem, Downer Rail, and the Queensland Government, we’re shaping the future of rail – delivering smarter, cleaner solutions that will drive sustainable growth and will resonate for generations,” he said.
