Narwee Station set for major upgrade

<span class="" id="parent-fieldname-description"> Narwee Station on Sydney’s Airport, Inner West &amp South Line is set for a major safety upgrade, according to NSW minister for transport Gladys Berejiklian and local member Mark Coure. </span> <p>Part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, work at Narwee Station will aim to make catching the train easier, particularly for customers with disability, the elderly and parents with prams.<br /><br />“I’m really pleased to announce this major upgrade for the residents of Narwee,” Berejiklian said.<br /><br />“I congratulate Mark Coure for the tireless campaigning he has done on behalf of his community to ensure this project gets underway.”<br /><br />Coure said the work at Narwee Station will now begin and could include a family accessible toilet and ramps, as well as lift access, improved customer information and wayfinding, stairs and upgrades to lighting and CCTV.<br /><br />“I have worked non-stop to get the green light for this project and I am so happy to be able to commit this important upgrade for Narwee residents,” Coure said.<br /><br />“The people of southern Sydney deserve better transport infrastructure and this is a government making a real difference. I went to the election in 2011 promising an upgrade for Narwee and now we are underway.”<br /><br />Coure said the planned improvements at Narwee Station are in addition to the transport interchange upgrade completed in September 2011.<br /><br />“Following the Interchange upgrade at Narwee station customers are already benefitting from better bus stops, a ‘kiss and ride’ zone and taxi zone with shelters on Penshurst Road South, new bicycle facilities and improvements to footpaths through the pedestrian subway,” Coure said.<br /><br />Berejiklian continued: “One of our major priorities as a government has been to encourage more people to use public transport, and since 2011 we’ve been improving infrastructure right across the state.<br /><br />“The NSW Liberals &amp Nationals Government has also delivered more than 10,500 extra weekly public transport services, 100 per cent of trains are now air-conditioned, and brand new Opal electronic ticketing is being rolled out for customers.”</p>
