Napier’s rail link benefits from larger ships

<p>Container traffic on rail has jumped almost 20% since the P&#38O Nedlloyd’s new 4,100-teu Albatross-class vessels began operating through the port of Napier in December to North America and Europe. </p> <p>Tranz Rail has taken on two extra staff because more than 95% of traffic through the Napier rail terminal is now container related. </p> <p>The arrival of the new vessels has made Napier the key export and import port for the lower North Island. </p> <p>Tranz Rail runs dedicated shuttles to and from Napier, Wellington and Palmerston North seven days a week, boosting the container traffic moving on rail to the port. </p> <br />
