<span class="" id="parent-fieldname-description"> The Victorian Government has announced a $2-2.5bn rail project including 25 new high capacity trains to deliver a 30% capacity boost for one of Melbourneâs busiest rail corridors. </span> <p>The multi-billion dollar program to transform the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines includes 25 new next generation, high-capacity trains and 21st century high-capacity signalling on the two rail lines.</p><p>It also includes four level crossing removals at Murrumbeena, Carnegie and Clayton planning and preconstruction funding to remove a further five level crossings newly-rebuilt stations at Clayton, Murrumbeena and Carnegie and a new train maintenance depot at Pakenham East.</p><div>Premier Denis Napthine said the project would see the number of trains running every peak hour increase to a total of 18 services.
