More level crossing improvements in Queensland

Queensland Transport will make major improvements to two railway level crossings near Cairns and Tully.

The first crossing, at Swallow Road in Edmonton, just south of Cairns, will include flashing flights to be coordinated with lights at the nearby intersection with the Bruce Highway.

There will also be improvements to warning signs and pedestrian pathways.

Flashing lights will also be included in the upgrade of the crossing at Murray Upper Road at Bilyana, near Tully.

Road markings, signposts and footpaths will also be upgraded to the appropriate level.

The projects are part of a five-year $17m state-wide program that involves a risk-based assessment of more than 3,300 level crossings on Queensland Government-funded rail lines.
