Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Authority will consult further with local community members in Carrum, as part of a $50 million revitalisation project off the back of a pair of level crossing removals in the area.
Major construction work to remove a pair of crossings, roughly a kilometre apart, at Station Street and Eel Race Road in Carrum, is set to take place during 2018 and 2019.
As part of the project, Carrum Station is being rebuilt, and the government is spending $50 million to “transform Carrum into a modern, connected and vibrant bayside suburb”.
The revitalisation includes extending McLeod Road through to the beach, building a new beach promenade and new village square, and streetscaping and landscaping around the Carrum Station precinct.
Early consultation work has told the Level Crossing Removal Authority the community wants to retain the beach look and feel of the town, through the planting of native vegetation, and improving walking and cycling connections.
Now the Authority wants to meet with community members again, to find out more detail about what they want to see in Carrum, and to help the project team refine plans for the area.
“This final round of consultation is your opportunity to influence the final design, including landscaping and vegetation, walking and cycling facilities, and some design elements such as lighting and public art,” the Authority said this week.
“Your feedback will be considered alongside that of other key stakeholders, with final designs to be released later this year.”
The Authority has established an online engagement hub to remain open until August 24, and has set a pair of drop-in sessions at the Carrum Life Saving Club on August 9 (5pm to 8pm), and August 18 (10am to 1pm).
