More car spaces coming at Ormeau

Additional car spots will be built at Ormeau station on the Gold Coast Line, after community feedback indicated more room was needed.

Queensland’s transport minister Mark Bailey said this week survey works had begun to aid detailed design for the additional facilities.

“When the car park is full, some commuters need to park in an informal overflow parking area next door,” Bailey said. “These works will deliver 70 additional car parks to the existing 270 formal parking spaces, providing commuters with easier access to train services when they need to travel into the city or beyond.”

He said detailed design work should be completed in the coming months, and construction is expected to start early next year.

“Park ‘n’ rides are an important element of the transport network and, when delivered in the right locations, allow commuters to connect with high frequency public transport where walking, bike riding and other transport options are limited,” Bailey said.

“This will add to the spaces already available and demonstrates the Palaszczuk Government is taking necessary steps to help ease congestion across a growing region.”
