Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) early construction is underway in Monash, with crews working day and night moving underground services to make way for the new underground station and twin tunnels.
Crews have been moving gas, power and telecommunications services on Normanby and Howleys roads – right near Monash University – and on Ferntree Gully Road.
Victoria’s Big Build is minimising disruption as much as possible during these works, scheduling night works close to university student residences outside of exam times.
SRL East will deliver a train line for the first time to Australia’s largest university, helping thousands of staff and students get to the campus every day.
The new underground station will include a vibrant town centre and an interchange for bus services – improving access to world-class education, health and research facilities and helping the area realise its potential as a global medical research hub.
Through careful planning and land use changes in the neighbourhoods around each station, SRL will also help deliver thousands more homes where people want to live – near jobs, services and world-class public transport.
Trains will be taking passengers in 2035, with tunnelling to start in 2026.
