The new elevated station at Hughesdale on Melbourne’s Cranbourne-Pakenham line will open to passengers this Saturday, becoming the fifth new station to become operational under the Caulfield to Dandenong project.
The project involved the removal of the Poath Road crossing in June, where boom gates were down for up to 72 minutes in the weekday peak from 7:00am to 9:00am.
The old Hugdesdale station, built in the 1970s, was demolished in October 2017. The new elevated station eatures a wrap-around canopy, improved transport displays, and upgraded lighting, CCTV and waiting rooms.
The canopy features deep green trimmings, part of a colour scheme designed to pay homage to the pottery of famous artist and local identity Arthur Boyd.
Amenities, including toilets, secure bike parking and a ticket office are situated on the ground level.
Lifts, escalators and the car park being are being opened progressively, with the first of the stations two lifts set to open by 3 September and the precinct will be largely complete by end of September.
As part of the Caulfield to Dandenong project, a total of nine level crossings have been removed and four other new stations – at Carnegie, Murrumbeena, Noble Park and Clayton have been built.
