Repair and upgrade works are to be carried out in late April and early May on Melbourne’s tram tracks on Carlisle Street and Balaclava Road between Westbury Street and Chaddesley Avenue and at Maribyrnong Road and Raleigh Road.

Sections of track in these areas are up to 50 years old, and track replacement will be carried out to improve operational efficiency and reduce the likelihood of derailments. The tram stop at Balaclava train station will also be receiving upgrades.

New automatic signal points will also be installed at intersections on Raleigh Road between Wests Road and Rosamond Road and Maribyrnong Road between Van Ness Avenue and Union Road. Major works in these areas will commence on Saturday 28 April and continue until Tuesday 1 May, affecting Route 57 and 82 tram services.

The works on Carlisle Street and Balaclava Road will commence on Friday 4 May and continue until Saturday 12 May, affecting Route 3/3a and 16 tram services.
