<span class="" id="parent-fieldname-description"> An investigation is underway into how a CountryLink service carrying around 180 passengers between Melbourne and Sydney came off its rails last week. </span> <p>No passengers were reported to have been injured in the incident which occurred between two inner-city Melbourne stations at around 8:30 on Friday last week.</p><p>The low-speed derailment occurred between Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations. Pictures from the incident show that the carriages stayed upright, but were angled off the tracks along the length of the train.</p><p>Passengers were assisted from the derailed train by a team of V/Line workers.</p><p>New South Wales Train Link and Sydney Trains staff were sent to Melbourne following the incident to investigate how it happened, according to ABC News.</p><p>None of Metro’s services were affected by the derailment. V/Line cancelled its Southern Cross to Albury rail services for the rest of the day, and transferred remaining passengers to coaches.</p><p>Passengers affected by the initial derailment were also moved onto coaches for their interstate trip to Sydney.</p>
