<p>The Melbourne-Adelaide rail line would be blocked until at least midday today (Monday, March 31) after the overnight derailment of a freight train in Victoria’s southwest.</p> <p>Victorian police Senior Constable Leigh Wadeson told <em>Lloyd’s List DCN</em> that the derailment occurred shortly before midnight after the freight train crossed the Mt Emu Creek crossing at Pura Pura, near Terang.</p> <p>Sen const Wadeson said 24 of the 48 carriages came off the track.</p> <p>“Carriages were strewn up to 1 km up the track,” Sen Const Wadeson said.</p> <p>At this stage they do not know what the train was carrying or how the derailment occurred, but there were no injuries.</p> <p>“The line is a main line between Adelaide and Melbourne, and we have closed for the rest of the night and early morning,” sen const Wadeson said.</p> <p>“The line will be closed until about lunchtime today.”</p> <p>Australian Transport Safety Bureau rail investigator Mark Stallbaum said that investigators were on their way to the scene.</p> <p>At 10 am, Mr Stallbaum told <em>Lloyd’s List DCN</em> : “My guys should be arriving in the next three-quarters of an hour.”</p> <br />
