<p>Geraldton’s southern transport corridor could now be delayed for up to a year while mediation takes place over plans for rail access into the port.</p> <p>The port of Geraldton wants the southern transport corridor railway to link into the port over a breakwater across Champion Bay.</p> <p>However, local residents have objected to this proposal.</p> <p>Mediation has now been ordered by state environment minister Judy Edwards.</p> <p>Local mayor Vickie Petersen said that the rail location needs to be known before the whole project can be bid out. </p> <p>If a decision can be taken by the end of November, then the project timetable may not be affected badly. </p> <p>If a decision is not made by Christmas, then the whole project may have to wait because of prohibitions on trucking sand during Geraldton’s windy season. </p> <br />
