Martinus is delivering critical upgrades across 15 bridges and 66 non-bridge sites as part of the Sydenham to Bankstown line conversion for the Sydney Metro Southwest.
As specialists in rail development, Martinus is well placed to deliver complex upgrades in live rail corridors, ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently with minimal disruption.
As part of the Sydney Metro Southwest Metro Conversion and Station Works (SWM4) contract, Martinus is replacing existing rail over bridge railings with screen barriers, and installing other protective structures and reinforcements to bring the 130-year-old corridor up to modern safety standards.
Bridge works are progressing well, with piling completed at nine of the 15 bridge sites. At Livingstone Road Bridge, stud welding has been finalised, strengthening the original steel structure for new safety barrier installation.

At Bankstown’s Stacey Street Bridge, one of Western Sydney’s busiest road-over-rail crossings, key milestones have been achieved. In December, 330 metres of median strip was temporarily removed, allowing construction to proceed without road closures. In January, kerbsides were removed using hydro demolition, a method that preserves the bridge’s structural integrity while preparing for new concrete safety barriers.
Meanwhile, structural steel fabrication for multiple bridge sites is nearing completion at Alfabs, a specialist steel fabricator in Maitland, NSW. These beams will soon be transported to site, where they will be used to strengthen the structure of the over bridges.
Martinus is ramping up work to deliver key bridge installations, barrier replacements, and corridor-wide infrastructure upgrades on Sydney Metro Southwest.
