Man dies after car collides with train

A 28-year-old man has passed away a day after his car collided with a train at a level crossing at Bairnsdale, in the state’s east early on Monday morning.

The Bairnsdale local died on Tuesday, after suffering serious injuries in the collision a day prior.

The incident took place at the level crossing intersection between the Gippsland line and Power Station Road, beside Bairnsdale Power Station, to the west of the town’s centre.

The man was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne after the collision occurred at around 6.20am on Monday morning.

Victorian Police officials announced the man died on Tuesday, August 23.

The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, according to Police, who said an investigation is ongoing.
