Piling is underway in Melton, Victoria to form foundations for two rail bridges that will permanently separate trains and vehicles.
The rail line is being raised at Coburns Road and Exford Road, with a new accessible Melton Station with four platforms being built as part of the project.
The new platforms will accommodate trains starting and terminating at Melton as well as Ballarat services.
Along with road bridges at Ferris Road, Melton and Hopkins Road, Truganina, the four level crossing removals are intended to ease congestion and improve safety on local roads by permanently separating trains and vehicles.
Crews at Coburns and Exford roads are using a 75-tonne piling rig to dig 40 holes up to nine metres deep.
These piles will form the concrete pillars that support the weight of the rail bridge and the new station.
Once piling is complete, works will continue to build the rest of the bridge structures and elevated station.
The new station will open in 2026.
