Sydney commuters are being asked to avoid travelling during this evening’s peak, as a massive storm continues to pummel the harbour city.
A storm cell dropped over 100mL of rain on Sydney on Wednesday morning, and continues to impact the region on Wednesday afternoon.
Rainfall and high winds caused delays on Sydney Trains’ T1 North Shore, Northern and Western Line, T2 Inner West & Leppington Line, T3 Bankstown Line and T8 Airport & South Line.
Delays also impacted operations on intercity trains, and the Sydney Light Rail between Central and Dulwich Hill was shut down completely.
Referencing the severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, Transport for NSW suggested commuters allow extra travel time so as not to rush in the severe conditions.
“If you are able to work flexibly, please speak to your manager about it and where possible avoid travelling in the peak hours,” TfNSW said.
“Our operating agencies are prepared and well equipped to manage extreme weather events and they will be taking every precaution to ensure the safety of customers during this period, along with proactively monitoring the transport system and responding quickly as needed.”
