Pimpama Station is now open, marking the first new station in South East Queensland in nearly a decade and the first on the Gold Coast in 16 years.
Hundreds of commuters on the Gold Coast Line caught a train from the station for the first time this morning.
The new station features 380 car parking spaces, a 40-bicycle lock-up enclosure, a pedestrian overpass with lifts on each platform, and lighting and CCTV throughout.
To boost accessibility, there are also ten accessible car parking spaces, braille and tactile station maps, hearing aid loop coverage, lifts and seating.
More than 90 train services will run through the new station each weekday, and at least 70 services each weekend day.
The opening of the station has resulted in minor timetable changes for some parts of the Gold Coast Line, with trains arriving up to two minutes earlier inbound (travelling to Brisbane) and leaving up to two minutes later travelling outbound (toward the Gold Coast) for stations between Varsity Lakes and Coomera.
Local bus routes have also realigned to integrate with new station and updated rail timetables.
Queensland Rail Chief Executive Office Kat Stapleton welcomed customers to the new station.
“There will be a train at this station approximately every 10 minutes during peak times and then every 30 minutes during off peak times, every day of the week,” she said.
“We are so proud to continue the Queensland Rail tradition of connecting communities, as we have done for the past 160 years.”
Pimpama is one of three new stations being delivered on the Gold Coast, along with Hope Island and Merrimac. Construction is underway on the two remaining stations.
