A major, 24/7 construction blitz has wrapped up as part of level crossing removal work in Melton and Truganina, with train services resuming on the Ballarat Line.
Crews worked around the clock at Coburns and Exford roads, Melton to complete excavation work, surface preparation, track work and line marking in the rail corridor.
The work paves the way for construction of the new, elevated Melton Station with 4 platforms, a pedestrian through link to ensure easy access across the rail line and 2, new rail bridges to take trains over Coburns and Exford roads.
During the two-week blitz, a new roundabout was constructed at the intersection of Brooklyn Road and Hazel Street, and the entrance to Melton Square Shopping Centre was rebuilt to allow for future bus movements in the area.
Piling also started at Ferris Road, Melton, to lay foundations for the new road bridge, which will take cars over the rail line.
Meanwhile crews at Hopkins Road, Truganina, undertook preparatory work along the rail corridor for the piers that will support the new road bridge.
The Victorian Government says removing the four level crossings will ease congestion and improve safety on local roads in Melton and Truganina.
The new Melton Station will provide modern facilities for commuters and is being built with extended platforms ready for longer VLocity trains, boosting passenger capacity by 50%.
The new Melton Station will open and all four level crossings will be removed next year. In total, 110 level crossings are being removed by 2030, with 85 already gone for good.
