<p>Macmahon would upgrade Queensland Rail’s Jilalan Rail Yard near Sarina, the Perth engineering firm said on Friday (June 22).</p> <p>The $250m contract starting early next year will see Macmahon and subsidiary MVM Rail create earthworks for 30 km of new track, realignment of existing track-work, road upgrade and rail crossing construction and building new maintenance and administration facilities.</p> <p>Part of the Dalrymple Bay-Hay Point expansion plans to increase capacity 40% by 2010, QR said the rail and port improvements would raise cargo handling from 92m tonnes a year to 129m tonnes a year.</p> <p>The designers will be a partnership of Connell Hatch and Parsons Brinkerhoff and the upgrade should be completed by December 2009.</p> <br />
