<p>The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) sought industry responses today (Tuesday, January 15) to its transport and logistics (T&L) blueprint for the next eight years.</p> <p>The council wants comments on the final version of the National T&L Freight Supply Chain Strategy, to be launched at the ALC Forum next month in Canberra.</p> <p>"The development of the strategy has been led by the Australian Logistics Council and its launch will be a major milestone for our industry," the council said.</p> <p>"The strategy has been developed with extensive consultation across the industry and it has identified significant challenges that, we believe, must be tackled by industry and government working in partnership."</p> <p>It said the critical action areas were:</p> <p>• Safety – implementing T&L Vision Zero nationally – no injury or death is acceptable in T&L</p> <p>• Investment – planning and delivery of infrastructure to handle the growing freight task </p> <p>• Leadership – ensuring issues of national strategic importance are communicated effectively</p> <p>• Attracting, retaining and continually developing our workforce </p> <p>• Energy & Environment – T&L taking the lead in environmental sustainability </p> <p>• Innovation & Technology – developing an innovation culture and remaining globally competitive and</p> <p>• Efficiency – ensuring regulation supports supply chain efficiency.</p> <p>Following feedback on the previous draft version and industry comments, there had been some substantial changes to the document, the council said. </p> <p>Those changes included development of a vision – “driving the Australian economy” – and national goals that include nationally strategic important initiatives only.</p> <p>An overall reduction of initiatives and content was sought and it was proposed that ALC facilitate a number of round table discussions with stakeholders to drive implementation strategies.</p> <p>An increase of organisations responsible for implementation was also sought.</p> <p>Responses should be sent by January 28 to:</p> <p>melinda.buker@austlogistics.com.au</p> <br />
