Sydney Trains has advised that a series of line closures will take place over the coming months to get Sydney Metro ready for the new extension from Sydenham to Bankstown.
An update from the organisation said these closures will allow teams to safely connect the new Southwest Metro with the existing M1 Metro Line ahead of services starting in the second half of 2026.
During this time, metro services and systems along the southwest corridor will be tested to ensure they work seamlessly with the M1 line and the operations control centre.
“This testing is a critical step to make sure the extension is safe and reliable before opening, delivering faster and more frequent metro services to southwest Sydney,” Sydney Trains said in a statement.
No metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham from Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 January, and from Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 January.
During these closures, replacement buses will operate between Tallawong and Chatswood. Passengers are advised to use trains between Epping or Chatswood, the City and Sydenham.
No metro services will run between Tallawong and Chatswood from Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 February. Metro services will operate between Chatswood and Sydenham only, and replacement buses will run between Tallawong and Chatswood.
