<p>The Western Australian Government has selected Leighton Contractors as the preferred proponent for the freeway works on Perth’s New MetroRail project.</p> <p>The works involve alterations to the Kwinana Freeway to accommodate the railway from Narrows Bridge to Glen Iris.</p> <p>Construction work should start in 2004 and project completion is scheduled for December 2005. </p> <p>Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that the Leighton Holdings Thiess unit will take operational control of the Kaltim Prima coal mine in east Kalimantan, Indonesia in a deal said to worth A$1.6bn-A$1.8bn over five years. </p> <br />
