Investigation opened into Goulburn derailment

The NSW Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) will lead a probe into the derailment of five wagons from a freight train near Goulburn on March 31.

According to a brief report on the Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s website SCT Logistics freight train 7MB9 was re-joining the Up main line near Goulburn from the Up refuge, just after 4am on March 31, when five of its wagons derailed.

The train was a Melbourne to Brisbane service.

Significant damage was caused to the wagons and adjacent infrastructure in the incident but no injuries were reported.

OTSI investigators have commenced collecting evidence and statements from involved parties.

The investigation is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2020.
