International accolades for transport safety group

<p>Victoria’s Transport Industry Safety group (TISG) has been recognised abroad as an initiative worthy of imitation.</p> <p>The Victorian initiative &#8211 which saw a high level of cooperation between a variety of industry associations, government bodies, regulatory authorities, industry and community groups &#8211 has been the focus of a series of recommendations in Britain’s House of Commons.</p> <p>A report, which included a submission from TISG chairman and Victorian Transport Association chief executive Philip Lovel to the British House of Commons, saw the House Constitutional Affairs Committee recommend the adoption of a model of coronial enquiry emulating that&#8224of&#8224Victoria, and the TISG.</p> <p>Mr Lovel said the recommendation was &#8220a welcome vindication of the tireless and exemplary work of the TISG&#8221. </p> <p>The primary role of TISG is to identify and address safety issues within the Victorian transport industry through input from the Coroner’s Office, state authorities and industry organisations.</p> <p>Participants include senior representatives from WorkSafe, the Transport Workers Union, the Victorian Transport Association, VicRoads, Victoria Police, the Transport Accident Commission, the Bus Association Victoria, Victorian Waste Management Association and Monash University’s Accident Research Centre, with the coroner present as an observer.</p> <br />
