<p>QR officially launched its new national operation Interail on Friday (May 31).</p> <p>Interail was formed after QR bought Northern Rivers Railroad earlier this year as its first push into the interstate market.</p> <p>The sale gave QR Northern River’s freight rollingstock, consisting of seven locomotives and 22 sleeper wagons. QR is converting the wagons into double slot container cars. It has also acquired a shunting tractor and workshop equipment.</p> <p>Interail is headed by Neil Buckley, who was QR general manager national development.</p> <p>In the long term, QR plans for Interail to be a full train operator. The company will be targeting traffic where rail has an advantage, in particular intermodal and grain.</p> <br />
