A group of 17 men and women from Shepparton, Victoria considering a career in the rail industry have graduated from a three-day Inland Rail training course offering a potential route towards employment.
Held at the Rumbalara Football Club in Shepparton, the Inland Rail Skills Academy Rail Readiness course offered participants an understanding of the requirements for a career in rail and construction.
Focusing on safety, mental fitness, psychosocial hazards, workplace readiness, and being fit for duty in the rail industry, Inland Rail said the course provided “valuable insights into the rail industry”.
The Inland Rail Skills Academy works with contractors and key community stakeholders to understand both industry and community challenges and identify mutually beneficial solutions.
Inland Rail said it is committed to delivering strong opportunities for regional and First Nations communities through education, training, skills development, and employment.
The course was delivered in partnership with high-performance mentoring and training organisation, Yakka Training.
Stephen Jones, Inland Rail’s Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability, said that by encouraging people to enter the rail industry, they are opening doorways to careers which look to their core values.
“Inland Rail’s core values are collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence, all of which are represented in our work with Yakka Training,” he said.
“The rail industry provides a rewarding and ongoing career path, and we want to upskill people who share our values, regardless of their story.
“Inland Rail has provided considerable regional employment and business opportunities since the project commenced.”
