<p>The Federal Government’s Inland Rail Taskforce has been re-established to help facilitate the private sector project.</p> <p>The taskforce is chaired by the member for Hinkler, Paul Neville. </p> <p>The other members are member for Parkes John Cobb, member for Fadden David Jull and member for Indi Sophie Panapoulos.</p> <p>A private sector group, Australian Transport Energy Corridor, is trying to construct an inland railway between Melbourne and Darwin</p> <p>Work has begun on the first stage, from Melbourne to Goodiwindi.</p> <p>It involves upgrading existing track from Somerton in Melbourne through Albury, Parkes, Dubbo, Moree and nearby North Star, and building new track from North Star to Goondiwindi and a bridge over the Macintyre River.</p> <p>The committee’s role is to link this group with the Federal Government.</p> <p>The Queensland Government has also agreed to back the project, which in its later second stage will provide a new rail corridor to Brisbane.</p> <br />
