A new bridge in Wandong will be craned into place in mid-February, marking an important milestone for the Inland Rail project.
Made up of 41 girders in total and assembled on-site, the Broadford-Wandong Road bridge is 35 metres long, 14.5 metres wide and weighs approximately 246 tonnes.
It will be craned into place by a 600-tonne crawler crane.
The existing Broadford-Wandong Road bridge will be demolished once the new bridge is open to traffic later in 2026.
Inland Rail is replacing the bridge to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to use the rail line.
“The new bridge will improve safety, connectivity and amenity, with a new shared use path, intersection improvements and the addition of open community space extending to Pickett Walk,” Inland Rail said in a statement.
