Progress has been made on the Beveridge to Albury section of the Inland Rail project in Victoria, with almost 600 local workers completing an intensive 40-hour non-stop works program from Wandong to Benalla.
Inland Rail construction partner John Holland drew on hundreds of local contractors and businesses to complete the work, including fencing contractors, concreters, machinery operators, geotechnical teams, electricians, signal technicians, truck drivers, engineers and traffic controllers.
Crews installed new signalling lights at the Birkett Street level crossing in Euroa and rewired rail signals at Benalla, while piling works were carried out at Benalla on the station side of the railway line for the new station underpass and lift shaft.
At the Tallarook site under the Hume Freeway, workers delivered new rail sleepers, reinstated ballast and continued piling to strengthen the bridge piers.

The construction of retaining walls and drainage also progressed at Short Street and Hamilton Street.
Russell Hamilton, Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Project Director said it was great to see so many workers onsite delivering the project.
“The new bridges at Short and Hamilton streets in Broadford are progressing well and the Benalla and Euroa station modernisation projects are well underway,” he said.
“It’s also great to see work ramp up on the Hume Freeway sites at Tallarook and Seymour.”

He said all eight Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 sites will be under construction once major works kick off at Inland Rail’s Marchbanks Road site in Broadford next year.
“We thank local communities for their patience and cooperation as we carry out the transformative works,” he added.
