Major upgrades to Victoria’s Shepparton Line are leaping ahead in October and November.
Crews are working to upgrade a 26 kilometre section of track between Mangalore and Murchison East as part of Stage 3 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade.
More than 300 people are replacing 17,500 ageing wooden sleepers with concrete sleepers, adding more than 50,000 tonnes of new ballast along the line, and upgrading bridges and culverts while trains aren’t running on the line.
Safety in Mangalore will be significantly boosted by adding boom gates, lights and bells to the level crossing between Seymour-Avenel Road and Magpie Lane.
This will further boost safety for train passengers and road users between Donnybrook and Shepparton and bring the total number of upgraded level crossings on the Shepparton Line to 56, with just three remaining.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade has already delivered extra services, upgraded stations and more comfortable journeys on modern and accessible VLocity trains for the first time.
Three station will be upgraded: Murchison East, Nagambie and Mooroopna.
In total, 59 level crossings between Donnybrook and Shepparton are being upgraded with improved train detection technology.
Coaches will replace trains between Seymour and Shepparton until Friday, November 24. Find out more about disruptions to V/Line services in local areas before travel.
