In late 2023, Downer signed an exclusive partnership with ZTR, offering Australian and New Zealand freight customers exclusive access to ZTR’s product range.
This collaboration allows Downer to provide rail operators with sustainable solutions which help them to meet their emission reduction targets.
As one of Australia’s leading providers of rail and transit systems, Downer understands the unique challenges rail operators face, especially in transitioning fleets to more sustainable technology. With this partnership, Downer’s world-class team offer the ZTR range with comprehensive integration services—design, modification, and installation—whether at the customer’s site or Downer’s facilities.
“This partnership with ZTR highlights our joint focus on decarbonising the rail industry,” said Troy Sparkman, EGM Freight & Motive Systems at Downer.
ZTR has built a reputation for innovation, creating solutions that extend the life of aging locomotives while reducing fuel consumption. Their products are designed to improve reliability, availability, maintainability, and connectivity, perfectly aligning with Downer’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art, sustainable rail solutions.
Among ZTR’s solutions are:
- SmartStart: An automatic engine stop-start system that cuts idle time and fuel consumption.
- KickStart: Boosts locomotive performance during demanding operations.
- Nexsys: A locomotive control system that enhances operational efficiency.
Through solutions like SmartStart, rail operators can see immediate emissions reductions by minimising idle time and fuel consumption.
“Exclusively offering this range underscores the commitment both Downer and ZTR have in advancing sustainable rail solutions,” Sparkman said.
In support of the partnership, teams from both companies held webinars to showcase the ZTR range and available services during November.
