Hundreds of Victorians have had their say on the draft structure plans for the neighbourhoods around the six Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East stations.
The Victorian Government received more than 800 submissions on the draft structure plans and draft planning scheme amendments in March and April, with 23,000 visitors to the Engage Victoria page and the draft structure plans downloaded more than 11,000 times.
The government also spoke to thousands of people through 21 community events, information sessions, webinars, emails and phone calls as locals sought more information about the proposed changes.
Responses included feedback on building heights, traffic congestion, SRL East rail infrastructure, housing types, public transport, bike and walking paths and more.
The government will review every submission and the Minister for Planning will appoint an advisory committee for the SRL East, with public hearings expected later this year.
Structure plans and planning scheme amendments are expected to be finalised in 2026.
“The SRL East precincts at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill will be thriving and vibrant communities with an additional 70,000 homes and 230,000 additional jobs by the 2050s – all connected by world-class public transport,” a Government spokesperson said.
