<p>The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) is dismayed by the Federal Government’s decision to scrap investigation of an east coast high-speed rail link.</p> <p>RTSA government relations spokesman Dr Philip Laird said: “Appropriate investment for the Sydney-Melbourne and Sydney-Canberra rail corridors should be a matter of priority for the Federal Government. </p> <p>"The very least the Howard Government can do is to now make a firm commitment that it will fully examine the option of tilt trains operating on upgraded tracks.</p> <p>The society submitted “in good faith” a plan for affordable improvements of the NSW track that will allow heavier, faster freight trains and high-speed tilt trains.</p> <br />
