Hapag-Lloyd takes over Brambles European rail

<p>Hapag-Lloyd Group will acquire Brambles Group’s European rail logistics activities in a $601m deal the European Commission approved this month.</p> <p>The company will make the purchase with its subsidiary VTG-Lehnkering and in cooperation with banker M.M Warburg.</p> <p>VTG-Lehnkering will manage and operate the Brambles’ hire fleet of around 21,400 freight cars and four rail workshops acquired from the sale.</p> <p>Most of VTG-Lehnkering’s haulage is chemical products and the Brambles wagons are equipped for this work.</p> <p>The sale doubles VTG-Lehnkering’s wagon segment for rail tank and bulk freight car hire to 40,000 units. It also has 8,000 freight cars managed through Transwagon Group.</p> <p>VTG-Lehnkering also owns Transpetrol, an international rail forwarding company and a stake in rail4chem, a rail haulage operator.</p> <br />
